t’s heartening to see West Coast residents gaining morale, training and jobs from the state government’s West Coast Working Group, like the former miners starring in this article in today’s Advocate: http://www.theadvocate.com.au/story/2960020/project-restoring-morale/?cs=86
The West Coast Working Group was established to provide $2.47 million for short and long-term projects to create jobs on the West Coast.
And it is individuals such as former Copper Mines of Tasmania workers, Daniel Stebbings and Shane Alexander, who have benefited from the program and been helping build West Coast walking and mountain biking tracks.
In addition, 80 West Coast locals received a certificate III in mining yesterday, of which 68 were former Copper Mines of Tasmania workers. Another seven achieved Cert 3 qualifications in fire fighting.
The Committee Chair Adam Brooks MP said some of the trainees did not have formal qualifications before they took part in the course and now there would be a workforce when mining picked up, as well as in different industries.
